Plans revealed for 2,500 homes plus employment land

Up to 2,500 homes, as well as retail and commercial space, could be built on the site of a farm and business park in Wiltshire if plan are brought to fruition.The application lodged with Swindon Borough Council is seeking outline permission to develop the 415-acre site at Lotmead Farm near Swindon. It has been submitted by Turley on behalf of Ainscough Strategic Land.If approved, 2,500 homes will be built on the site, which currently accommodates Lotmead Farmstead – a “pick your own” fruit and vegetables site – and Lotmead Business Village.The business village, which provides 16,150 sq ft of accommodation, would be retained with an extra 10,763 sq ft added.The development will also be built with 19,000 sq ft of commercial and community space, as well as two primary schools, both of which will be two form entry.If approved, the plans are estimated to take 20 years to complete, providing 220 full-time equivalent jobs during construction and a further 177 following, with a corresponding economic boost.Swindon Borough Council will decide on the project in due course.
