Plans revealed for Bonded Warehouse scheme

Detailed proposals for the Bonded Warehouse redevelopment – which forms part of the wider St John’s masterplan – have been revealed.Comprising six storeys, the building was constructed in 1867 as a terminal for goods transported by train to and from Manchester. In 1982, Granada Television converted it for use as television studios, rehearsal space, offices and other ancillary uses.In recent years, it has not been permanently occupied but instead used for short term filming contracts and as a storage facility.Manchester Quays – a joint venture between Manchester City Council and Allied London – is behind the application, which forms a part of the first phase of St John’s.The existing use class of the whole building is office use, with the proposals seeking permission to change various units across three levels.A detailed list of what is likely to be included at the redeveloped Bonded Warehouse includes a fitness suite, small batch gin distillery, design space, restaurant, coffee shop and open craft brewery.
