Plans revealed for city centre redevelopment project

Plans for the redevelopment of Gloucester’s city centre have been revealed, complete with 26,900 sq ft of commercial space, 43,000 sq ft of office space as well as up to 140 new homes.The plans for Kings Square also include allocated development space for a new hotel and 21,500 sq ft of creative work space.A design team led by property advisory firm GVA has been working on the project with architects’ practice AHR and landscape architects Novell Tullett. Also included within the hybrid planning application that will be submitted in November, are the initial proposals for a new pedestrianised street that will provide a link between Kings Square and the railway station.The railway station is set to be improved following an application by Gloucester City Council and Great Western Railways to the GFirst Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Fund, for funding of £3.75m.The new square is being designed so that it is suitable for hosting world class events and performances and is available to cultural organisations such as the Council’s Guildhall arts venue to extend their events space, with a bid for the City of Culture 2025 being considered.It is hoped that work will begin on the new square in Autumn 2019.
