Plans revealed for major Newcastle gateway scheme
Plans have been unveiled to revamp a derelict site on the edge of Newcastle, creating a new gateway to the city. The scheme could incorporate up to 1,500 homes and create hundreds of jobs.Newby is behind the £250m sustainable urban village project for the former Calders site on Skinnerburn Road.As well as creating new homes, leisure and commercial space, the development could also create 575 permanent jobs and more than 600 construction jobs.The Calders site forms part of Newcastle City Council’s ambition to transform the area between Central Station and the Quayside at Skinnerburn Road. The scheme is known as Forth Yards.A planning application is expected to be prepared and submitted to Newcastle City Council following public consultation.
