Plans revealed to create thousands of homes and jobs

More than 1,500 homes and employment space capable of supporting 2,500 jobs could be built on a site in West Yorkshire under new plans.Deloitte is set to present plans for a major development off Leeds Road in Dewsbury at a meeting of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee later this week (11 July 2019).The site measures almost 300 acres and is allocated for mixed use development, housing and employment uses, in the council’s Local Plan.A new mixed-use development is proposed for the site, comprising about 1,535 residential units and 86.5 acres of employment land, providing up to 1.32 million sq ft of floorspace and up to 2,500 new jobs.The proposal also includes a two form entry primary school, and a community hub, which may include convenience retail, a pharmacy and a doctor’s surgery.The development would include public open space, a multi-use games area, playspaces and allotment gardens. It would be laid out around two new primary roads.A planning officer’s report on the scheme prepared for the meeting said that a “strong response to the Kirklees Economic Strategy’s emphasis on advanced manufacture and precision engineering is expected”.The development would be completed in phases in a programme of 15 to 20 years.
