Plans submitted for 3,000-home development

Plans for 3,000 new homes, employment space and infrastructure on a site near the A59/A1 and Harrogate railway line have been lodged.The outline planning application from CEG aims to help to meet the borough’s housing needs over the next 20 years as part of Harrogate Borough Council’s draft Local Plan.The proposal includes a mix of one-to-five-bedroom homes including, affordable, starter, family and elderly accommodation.About 215,000 sq ft of offices or workspace will be developed to accommodate a range of local businesses and investment will be made in the existing infrastructure.Almost a third of the site will feature open space or landscaping, including parkland, community gardens a sports facilities.Improvements will be made to the facilities at Cattal and Hammerton stations, and there will be new and more frequent bus services to Harrogate, Boroughbridge and York.The A59 will be realigned around the development area with new access created. A new roundabout will be created on the realigned B6265 and improvements will be made to the A1(M) junction 47.CEG is behind a number of developments across Yorkshire, including the £400m Kirkstall Forge scheme which is transforming a 57-acre brownfield site into a vibrant new community comprising 1,050 new homes and 400,000 sq ft of new offices, leisure, retail, food and drink and other facilities.
