Plans submitted for affordable housing scheme
Plans for more than 100 affordable homes near Chester-le-Street have been hailed as having the potential to create a “real positive change” in the area. The proposal from Karbon Homes seeks to create 107 properties on the site of the former Roseberry Sports Community College in Pelton. As part of the project, 68 rent-to-buy properties are planned, alongside 31 apartments for over-50s and eight bungalows. The multimillion-pound scheme comes as the Government continues to push for the creation of new properties to meet the housing shortage and address the affordability of home ownership. It also hopes to relieve the pressure on the social rented sector, which has prompted the growth in private renting.
