Plans submitted for Glasgow city centre apartments

Ryder Architecture has developed plans for a new mixed-use development on behalf of Brickland Ltd in Glasgow city centre which could provide 182 new homes.Turley has submitted applications for planning, conservation area and listed building consents for the 64-72 Waterloo Street project, which aims to provide one, two and three-bedroom build to rent apartments and duplexes.The proposals are said to align with Glasgow City Council’s ambition to substantially increase the number of people living in the city centre.The site in question was once home to Wright and Greig Ltd distillers. Distillers’ House, also known as Coltas House, was designed by architect James Chalmers in 1898. The proposal will restore and repurpose parts of the B-listed Distillers’ House, which has been unoccupied and in a state of deterioration for some time. The building was damaged in a fire in the 1940s, which resulted in the original dome and roof features being removed. As part of the redevelopment, these features will be reinstated.A new-build element will occupy the existing footprint of 70-72 Waterloo Street as well as the rear of the site.As well as new homes, the proposal will create a new meeting space at the heart of the site. This will include commercial and residential amenity uses.The delivery team includes Ryder Architecture, AA Projects, Woolgar Hunter, Futureserv and BB7.
