Plans submitted for Solar PV system
Plans have been submitted by a Newton Aycliffe business for the installation of a solar PV system, which would reduce its carbon footprint by approximately 78 tonnes of CO2 per annum. The application, which was submitted by Geo Green Power on behalf of the applicant, comprises a ground mounted system, with 660 solar panels on unused land west of Building 12 at Horndale Avenue. The design and access statement accompanying the application said that the array would use Canadian Solar 380w panels and, due to the surrounding shrubbery, hedgerows, trees, buildings and a small slope, would not be visible to the surrounding roads. It also said that the site was chosen because of its proximity to the private electrical supply to which it will be connected to, meaning there will be a reduction in the amount of ancillary infrastructure needed to support the scheme. The statement noted that the new system “will reduce the environmental impact of the business and the surrounding area immediately”.
