Plans to convert historic Newcastle hall submitted
New plans have been lodged for the transformation of a historic hall in Newcastle into luxury homes.Developer and property specialist Fenham Properties Ltd is seeking approval for the conversion of the grade II-listed Pendower Hall in Newcastle’s west end into four seven-bedroom properties. The plans also include the construction of one new property on the 4.9-acre plot of land. The new homes would all feature independent entrances, kitchens, dining facilities, reception rooms, ensuites and bathrooms. The ground floor would accommodate reception rooms, kitchen facilities, bathrooms, and some bedrooms, while the first and second floors will have new bedrooms, bathrooms and storage incorporated with some office space allocated in plot four. Also planned is a private leisure and wellness facility, which will include a gym, steam room, sauna, swimming pool, changing facilities and power plant together with new vehicle parking spaces.Alex Franklin, associate director at Hedley Planning, who is overseeing the submission, said the redevelopment, which will be occupied by the developer, will restore a heritage asset for Newcastle.”We very much look forward to redevelopment; bringing back to life an important site that will deliver social and economic benefits to the community through imaginative regeneration and fresh investment,” he said.”As planners, we always want to see urban regeneration of brownfield sites and the re-purposing of existing buildings to deliver a strong legacy. This one undoubtedly heralds major changes to this important part of the city.”Pendower Hall was built for Quaker banker J W Pearce in 1867 and had been used by the council as a school and then as an education training centre before it lay empty for more than a decade. The scheme is expected to be considered by Newcastle City Council later this year or early 2025. If it gets the green light, on-site building work could follow shortly afterwards.
