Plans to transform derelict Swansea Boys Club on course
THE charity hoping to transform the old Swansea Boys Club building into a new community centre say the scheme is on track – but will depend on being able to raise the necessary funds.The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales is looking at transforming the derelict club in Mayhill into a community base with facilities for sports and performing arts, along with a cafe, small-scale cinema, classrooms and offices for rent.The charity has previously been given a £25,000 grant by Swansea Council for a feasibility study into the project, and its chief executive said it was working towards submitting a formal planning application.Charity boss Joff Carroll said: “We are delighted with the support we have received from Swansea Council and local community for this project.”We are working with a team of local architects ahead of submitting a request for planning permission for a community hub, meeting needs identified by the community.
