Proposed £130m Glasgow skyscraper build would create 450 jobs
PLANS have been unveiled for the ‘landmark’ build of a skyscraper in Glasgow city centre which developers say would create around 450 jobs during the construction phase. It would see the creation of a high-quality, mixed-use development featuring residential flats, ground floor commercial units, associated public realm, and amenity space at the site – which is currently a ‘derelict’ temporary carpark – between Washington Street and Anderston Quay by the Kingston Bridge.A mix one-three bedroom build to rent flats would be built alongside a range of commercial spaces including shops, cafés, and restaurants to serve the growing neighbourhood and community.Developers, CA Ventures, said that the building would embody the ‘highest levels’ of sustainable design underpinned by a whole life carbon assessment. Furthermore, the firm said that the build would see the creation of a ‘landmark gateway’ building on the city’s skyline.CA Ventures submitted a proposal of application notice to Glasgow City Council earlier this month, with it currently being in the process of having pre-application discussions with the local authority. It added that it anticipates an application for detailed planning permission will be submitted towards the end of May.A consultation on the plans has been launched on the plans, with the project team saying it is ‘important’ to obtain as much feedback on the proposals ‘as possible’.
