Proposed apartment buildings move forward
An application proposing the construction of a series of apartment buildings in Market Harborough has moved forward.Hazelton Homes (Midlands) Ltd brought forward plans to redevelop land at St Mary’s Road. The site forms part of an area known as the Welland Quarter.Proposals comprise three new buildings providing a total of 77 one- and two-bed homes.Additionally, a listed block known as Old Flour Mill will be converted into a further six flats. The application has been revised several times since its original submission. Originally, there were a greater number of family houses and underground parking was shown but this “was found to be unviable”.It is now proposed to infill the sub-ground level and create a reduced level of ground level parking, consisting of 39 car and 60 bike spaces.A report for the committee said: “The proposal will bring new residents to the town and provide opportunities for some smaller housing for local people who otherwise may have to move away.”The site is within walking distance of the town centre and the future occupiers would have opportunity to contribute to the towns health, social and cultural wellbeing.”
