Pub redevelopment plans recommended for approval
Plans to redevelop an Exeter pub and neighbouring derelict site with a mixed-use scheme providing almost 110 student flats are set to get the green light from councillors next week (2 October 2017).Developer Rengen submitted an application to Exeter City Council for the demolition of the King Billy Public House Longbrook Street earlier this year. Grainge Architects designed the scheme.Under the proposals, the site, together with an adjacent derelict plot of land, will be redeveloped to provide 108 purpose-built student bedrooms in a new building measuring up to seven storeys. The ground floor of the building will provide two new commercial units, while scheme will also feature secure parking for bicycles. It has been estimated that about 1,900 additional student bedrooms will be required in Exeter by 2018/19.The application will be considered by Exeter City Council’s planning committee on 2 October, with a report from the planning officer recommending approval is granted, subject to conditions. The recommendation has been made despite an objection from Exeter Civic Society to the development.
