Railway station transformation plans on track for approval

Plans to demolition a Birmingham railway station building and construct a replacement on the same site have been tipped to be given the go-ahead next week.Perry Barr Rail Station will be transformed if councillors back the scheme at a meeting on Thursday 4 February.There has been a station on the site since 1837, with the current building constructed in the 1960s.If approved by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee at a virtual meeting, work could start in the coming months.Perry Barr station would be set to reopen to passengers ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.The project is being led by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the West Midlands Rail Executive in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Network Rail and West Midlands Trains.
