Description: The Awarding Authority seeks support with the development of a design and delivery model for the Rapid Charging Fund.The aim of the Rapid Charging Fund is to help meet the costs of securing future-proofed electricity capacity at Motorway Service Areas (MSAs) and key A road sites across the Strategic Road Network in England. This will pave the way for the provision of high-powered charging points that can fulfil long-term demand for Electric Vehicle charging and combat “range anxiety” among consumers (i.e. fear of lack of available public chargepoints, which is cited frequently in consumer research as one of the key barriers to purchasing an Electric Vehicle).The Rapid Charging Fund will help to ensure that Government can meet the following ambitions (subject to change if the proposed date for phase out of non-zero emission vehicle sales is brought forward):By 2023, we aim to have at least 6 high powered, open- access?chargepoints (150-350 kilowatt capable) at MSAs in England, with some larger sites having as many as 10-12By?2030, we expect the network to be extensive and ready for more people to benefit from the switch to electric cars. We are planning for there to be around 2,500 high powered chargepoints across England’s motorways and major A roadsBy 2035 we expect around 6,000 high powered chargepoints across England’s motorways and major A roads.The Rapid Charging Fund’s design and delivery model must be informed by technical and commercial expertise and energy/infrastructure investment experience, while taking into account the policy aims of Government and the ranging interests of stakeholders.5.
