Ravenscraig development plans could hand local economy £360 million boost

Plans for the further development of the former Ravenscraig steelworks are expected to come closer with the announcement of funding worth £66 million.According to North Lanarkshire Council the next stage of development of the steel works could be worth £360 million to the local economy.Much of the site has been redeveloped but a large area is still derelict. The council said the next phase of work could create 6,500 jobs. It has already agreed an extra £30m to be spent on building major new roads in the area and upgrading existing ones.The multi-million investment from the Glasgow City Region City Deal covering the area would be used to finance the remainder of the plans. The eight city region council leaders are meeting to discuss moving the additional funds from existing North Lanarkshire projects into the Ravenscraig Infrastructure Access scheme.
