Redevelopment plans for iconic high-rise landmark in Gloucester
An “iconic” high-rise landmark in Gloucester is in line to be redeveloped into homes under newly-submitted plans. The Clapham Court tower block is said to be “beyond its sustainable and effective use”, with a planning application lodged to redevelop it.Quattro Design Architects, along with clients Gloucester City Homes (GCH), have created a “bold and modern” proposal that aims to “rejuvenate” the area.In place of the current 11-storey tower, two new – smaller residential blocks – and 15 houses will be built for the affordable and social housing market. The scheme would comprise 36 properties and will also accommodate a new pharmacy.A new ‘green street’ will also be created, complete with a variety of plants, grassed areas, picnic tables and seating. There will be no vehicle access within the new development.Quattro’s project lead Colm Coyle said “With this planning application, we can see a clear strategy from Gloucester City Homes – that is; a cleaner, safer, more sustainable environment for Gloucester’s communities.”It has been a really exciting journey, so far, and I am looking forward to watching the scheme mature and evolve into a series of warm, safe and comfortable homes for the community.”
