Residential development planned for 8.1-acre site
Up to 89 new homes could be built in a small village near Bristol if plans are approved.The village of Engine Common, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book, has a population of 250.The application for outline permission was submitted by Pegasus Planning on behalf of Newland Homes.Under the plans, one home would be demolished to provide access to the site itself, which will be developed with 58 houses for the open market, 12 flats for social and intermediate housing, as well as a further 19 houses for social and intermediate use.According to the application, the site could generate up to £11m within the local economy during construction, supporting 77 jobs directly and a further 61 indirectly, with a yearly household spend totalling £2.6m following completion.Bath and North East Somerset Council will decide on the project in due course.
