Residential-led scheme approved for Altrincham

Plans for a residential led mixed use scheme including a new multi-storey car park in Altrincham, Greater Manchester have been approved.Trafford Council has granted the scheme presented by HOW Planning on behalf of local developer Citybranch Healthcare, paving the way for 70 new apartments to be built in the town centre.The scheme, which has been designed by Project 3 Architects, will see the redevelopment of Chapel Square, on the current Regent Road car park site in Altrincham town centre.The new development will include also include a 300-space car park as well as 9500 sq ft of retail space, café, restaurant and commercial space and a new public square; all to be built on a key brownfield site.The approved scheme will see a significant increase in the number and quality of car parking on the site with 223 new, publicly accessible spaces to be managed by Trafford Council.The scheme will also deliver substantial new public realm improvements and connections to the rest of the town centre.It will include a more fitting commemorative setting for Chapel Street, which was called ‘the bravest little street in England’ by George V, acknowledging the families and large number of volunteers who went to fight in the trenches during WWI.A significant financial contribution will also be made to public realm improvements elsewhere in the town centre.Work on the scheme is due to commence later in 2018.
