Retirement apartments recommended for approval

A bid to convert a vacant day centre in Speke into retirement apartments looks set to be approved.Anchor Hanover, a not-for-profit provider of specialist housing and care for people in later life, is behind the plans for the site at 47 Parade Crescent.The building is currently run and managed by Anchor Hanover and accommodates 36 socially rented retirement apartments for the elderly. Previously it provided a day centre and respite care facilities as part of the ground and first floors. They were operated separately by Liverpool City Council Social Services up until 31 August 2017The application proposes the conversion of the existing day care centre, respite facilities and ancillary floor space to provide 14 additional retirement flats. Three guest and staff rooms, alterations to the fenestration and internal layout, and a single-storey side extension to provide a buggy and cycle stores and changes to the car parking layout, also form part of the proposals.Planning officials have recommended the application is approved subject to the applicant entering into a section 106 agreement.Liverpool City Council’s planning committee will meet on Tuesday 31 August.
