Revised Broadmead plans set for green light

Revised plans for the redevelopment of the Broadmead shopping district in Bristol have been recommended for approval.The Broadmead development previously came before the city council’s development control back in September, with councillors opting to defer the application, noting that they felt that the number of car parking spaces was too high and the contribution to affordable housing too small.Developer Bristol Alliance, the joint venture which owns the neighbouring Cabot Circus, has now reduced the number of car parking spaces from 580 to 380.The business has also agreed to include an allocation of 60 affordable units as part of the development’s 150 housing units.In addition to the residential units, the 8.6 acre site will feature 1.1 million sq ft of retail space and a glass walkway to the neighbouring Cabot Circus.The Development Control committee will be voting on the new proposals on 10 January.Officers have recommended approval of the plans subject to a section 106 agreement which will cover the affordable housing units and financial contributions towards transport improvements which includes safe cycle routes, bus stop infrastructure and a new car club.
