Revised golf course hotel plans set for approval

Revised plans for the construction of a hotel at an East Yorkshire golf course look set to get the green light at a meeting later this week (9 January 2020).Cottingham Leisure, supported by Avison Young, submitted plans to East Riding of Yorkshire Council in September 2019 for a development at Cottingham Parks Golf and Leisure Club.Approval is sought for the construction of a 70-bedroom hotel and an extension to the existing clubhouse and facilities, as well as associated access, parking and landscaping.The Cottingham Parks business currently employs 59 staff and the proposed development could support the creation of between 30 and 45 additional full-time jobs.The applicant has said that the proposed hotel and clubhouse improvements will help “ensure the financial sustainability of the business and provide diversification”.Planning permission was previously refused by the council in September 2018 for a 70-bedroom hotel and up to 152 retirement properties.The previous scheme was refused due to the potential for a “significant and unacceptable intrusion of new built development in the open countryside”.The new hotel-only plans will be considered by the council’s planning committee on 9 January 2020 and are recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the meeting.
