Plans to scrap a 140-strong residential scheme in Liverpool and instead bring forward a 277-bed hotel have been submitted, with the project representing a multimillion-pound investment.Elliot Group is behind the application, with proposals having been approved in March 2017 for an 11-storey apartment block on the same plot close to The Royal Liverpool Hospital. However, this was never implemented and the company – responding to the “buoyant hotel sector” in Liverpool, alongside the rapidly changing context of the area with the progress of Paddington Village and the Knowledge Quarter – has now applied for a different use.Proposed are 277 bedrooms, a restaurant and a ground floor commercial unit fronting onto Prescot Street. The first floor of the L-shaped building would comprise 40 bedrooms, with 45 earmarked for the second floor. The third, fourth and fifth floors would provide 39 each. The sixth floor would include 24 bedrooms, while the seventh, eighth and ninth would have 17 each.Fesigned to create a “diverse provision of accommodation for the area for hospital visitors and visitors to the various buildings within the Knowledge Quarter and Paddington Village”, the project is part of the wider £100m Aura development, which is currently on site with phase one. This comprises 1,007 student bedrooms.Last month, Elliot Group outlined plans to submit the application as part of a wider push for further hotel space.
