Revised plans reduce number of apartments at Finnieston block

Developers behind plans for a mixed-use development in Finnieston have submitted fresh designs that include a roof garden and fewer flats.Ambassador Living submitted a detailed planning application to Glasgow City Council in May last year for the creation of 155 apartments and retail space at the corner of Finnieston Street and Minerva Street.A revised application for the development now proposes just 132 apartments, with six commercial units on the ground floor.Named to reflect its New York City aesthetic, Ambassador Living said last year that its West Avenue project is designed to reinvigorate the brownfield site with a landmark development.“The proposed elevations mirror the existing architecture seen in the local vicinity and are sympathetic to the conservation area on Minerva Street. A high quality, natural stone frontage gives a nod to a bygone era, when tenements once stood proudly on the land,” it added.Gordon Coster, managing director of Ambassador Living, said: “Finnieston is perhaps one of the most sought-after areas of Glasgow right now. The location of our West Avenue development is in a prime position to become the cornerstone of the thriving neighbourhood.“Our plans reflect modern living with a sympathetic nod to the site’s history, bringing it back to its former glory and becoming a beacon as you enter into the popular West End.”As part of the proposals, a public realm is set to be created and in addition to the apartments and retail space, the detailed plans also cover the parking area for the adjacent new Lidl store.
