Rugby club plans move in preparation for HS2
A Midlands rugby club has lodged plans to develop a new ground ahead of being relocated for the arrival of high speed rail line HS2.Old Saltleians Rugby Club, known as Old Salts, have played at their Watton Lane ground since 1954.They have submitted a planning application to North Warwickshire Borough Council to build a new facility on a 16-acre plot off Coleshill Road in Water Orton.If the scheme goes ahead, it will be the third time the club has been affected by transport infrastructure. They initially relocated due to the construction of the M42 and later the M6 toll road.The new ground will include a 9,000 sq ft clubhouse, a bar, restaurant, three senior pitches, three junior pitches and 177 parking spaces.Bruton Knowles is advising Old Salts on the acquisition of the new site.If granted planning approval, work will begin on the new ground later this year, with completion scheduled for 2018.AJA Architects, Nolan Associates, RLF Construction and Property Consultants, Graceful Solutions and Squire Patton Boggs also advised Old Salts.
