Saint-Gobain Glass investing £30m in East Yorkshire plant

Saint-Gobain Glass has started work on a £30m investment programme at its glass manufacturing factory in East Yorkshire.The company is carrying out a major construction programme at the Eggborough plant to completely re-build and install a new float glass furnace, as well as upgrade other areas of the factory.The project aims to secure the long-term supply of high-performance glass for the window and door market and wider construction sector in the UK.It represents the largest industrial investment in the UK by the Saint-Gobain Group since the Eggborough plant was built in 2000.Due to be completed by late summer, the enlarged capacity furnace will replace the existing furnace that has reached the end of its design life. It is set to use less energy and is expected to help the company to optimise manufacturing efficiency and increase production capacity.
