Saw mill to be redeveloped into 87 homes
Plans to transform a saw mill close to the River Ure and a registered battlefield into a 87-home housing development in North Yorkshire have been submitted.Pegasus Group has submitted plans to Harrogate Borough Council on behalf of Linden Homes, for the transformation of Riverside Saw Mills into 87 dwellings.Currently consisting of former industrial units which are in the process of being demolished, the site is bounded to the north by the River Ure, Tower Marina and existing buildings.Linden Homes intends to build a mixture of detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and a barn conversion, ranging from one to two and a half storeys in height.The development site had been in operation as a mill since 1935 when the Rivercraft Co Ltd started out, before becoming John Boddy Timber.The battle of Boroughbridge took place on March 16th 1322 in an area to the north-east of the saw mills.The battle followed a decade of antagonism between King Edward II of England and Thomas, Earl of Lancaster.On the day of the battle, a group of rebellious barons supporting the Earl of Lancaster with around 700 knights took on the King’s 4,000 or so soldiers.
