Plans have been submitted for a new coastal community in Seaburn comprising 85 homes.Avant Homes North East, which has recently built schemes in Chester-le-Street, Gateshead and Wingate, has lodged plans with Sunderland City Council for a residential development on land at Lowry Road, close to Sunderland’s seafront. The proposals, which comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom family homes, will see attractive new properties rise from the ground behind the site of the former Seaburn Centre, which is set to be transformed into a leisure destination with a STACK development due for completion in spring 2020.Avant Homes has applied to the council for permission to build a range of detached and semi-detached homes, which will each come with a garage, car parking and a garden. The wider site has been earmarked as a mixed-used development for a number of years, and two major leisure developments have been brought forward by private sector partners working with the council.Among other planned housing developments across the city is a £40m scheme delivered by Karbon Homes in North Hylton and a £400m plan by Gentoo to invest in its existing stock, as well as new schemes. Sunderland City Council has also revealed it has ambitions to develop contemporary new city centre homes on the former Vaux Brewery site, as well as on the opposite side of the river, close to the Stadium of Light. Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said that the level of interest and investment being attracted to Sunderland – which amounts to more than £1.5bn – demonstrates the momentum being built in the city.
