Second chance for historic family firm’s transformation plan

A plan by a historic family business to transform its Birmingham headquarters to safeguard its long-term future has been recommended for approval for a second time.Charles Green & Son, which has been run by the same family for six generations, is seeking the go-ahead to add five commercial units and 37 apartments to its base in Tenby Street.A final decision had originally been due to be made by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee at a virtual meeting on Thursday 24 September but the application was pulled from the agenda.Council officers had recommended it for approval ahead of the meeting.Now the authority is set to vote on the application on Thursday 8 October.The jewellery maker has been located at the factory for the last 50 years but has hired Rainier Developments and architects BDP to help make the site more suitable for its needs.Charles Green & Son has been established for more than 200 years.
