Shropshire land earmarked for residential neighbourhood
A national developer has earmarked agricultural land in Shropshire for the construction of hundreds of homes as part a project aimed at creating a residential neighbourhood on a “sustainably located” site.Barratt David Wilson Homes has lodged a full planning application to develop land at Tilstock Road, Whitchurch.Extending to about 67.8 acres, the application site comprises several agricultural fields, which are currently used for livestock and growing arable crops. Mossfields Farm and its associated buildings lie roughly in the centre of the land.Proposals involve the development of 561 properties split between one to four bedrooms, ten per cent of which would be allocated as affordable.Land has also been designated for a two-form primary school.A statement submitted to Shropshire Council on behalf of the applicant said the scheme would create an “attractive, well-designed and high-quality residential neighbourhood on a site that is sustainably located” and “support and sustain local services and facilities within the village”.It added: “Any harm arising from the proposals cannot be argued to significantly and demonstrably outweigh its benefits.”The various technical documents submitted as part of this application demonstrate that the proposals are acceptable in traffic and transport terms, have regard to ecological habitats and protected species and in respect of heritage considerations.”
