A solar farm with the potential to generate enough energy to power more than 16,000 family homes could be developed on a site in East Yorkshire if newly submitted plans secure approval.Boom Power, supported by Aardvark EM, has submitted a full planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for development on land at Kenley House Farm on Ferry Road in Wawne.Planning permission is sought for the construction and operation of a grid-connected solar photovoltaic farm, together with ancillary infrastructure, and landscaping and biodiversity enhancements. The proposed development would supply up to 49.9MW of electricity to the National Grid, meeting the equivalent annual electrical needs of about 16,080 family homes. The expected CO2 displacement is about 22,012 tonnes per annum, which represents an emission saving equivalent of a reduction in circa 7,279 cars on the road every year.A planning statement accompanying the application said: “The proposed development has been designed to a high standard response to the local landscape characteristics. It includes specific proposals to address local concern about construction impacts and will provide significant biodiversity enhancements.”The development will facilitate soil and habitat regeneration, it does not increase flood risk either on or off-site and has been designed to be flood resilient.”The proposed development represents an important farm diversification project, delivering indirect socio-economic benefits, at a time of significant change and concern within the UK farming industry.”The project team includes Hydrock, South West Archaeology, Atlas Geophysical, Landscape Visual and Western Ecology, Western Ecology, Askew Land and Soil, Alpaca Communications and Neo Environmental.
