St Modwens sets out great Homer Street timetable
St Modwen has outlined a timetable for the delivery of the £150m Great Homer Street scheme in north Liverpool and revealed that a revised planning application for a smaller Sainsbury’s is due to be submitted ahead of the supermarket opening in the spring of 2017.The project, known locally as Project Jennifer, broke ground in November 2014 and site preparation works are due to complete this month. In addition, the £4m highway works phase of the scheme, which includes improvements to Great Homer Street and Scotland Road together with a new link road and junction between the two, are underway and expected to complete next summer.St Modwen said that a revised planning application for the new Sainsbury’s food store would be submitted, with the supermarket aiming to begin construction onsite next summer. It added that the revised planning application would take into account changes in retail and customer shopping requirements since Sainsbury’s committed to Project Jennifer in 2010.It is now envisaged that the store will be smaller than originally planned, with 40,000 sq ft of selling space rather than 60,000 sq ft and taking a total space of 67,000 sq ft rather than 110,000. However, the store will still include a café.In addition, new retail units comprising 80,000 sq ft will be built to open at the same time as the Sainsbury’s store. St Modwen has already begun demolition of the existing buildings onsite to make way for these facilities and work is due to complete before the end of this year.
