Step forward for job-creating retail scheme
The development of a major leisure and retail site in Stoke, which could create more than 650 jobs, has taken a step forward after being recommended for approval.Realis Estates is behind the project to regenerate the former bus station and old East West Centre site in Hanley.Known as Unity Walk, the scheme will comprise shops, restaurants, a 90-room hotel and a multi-screen IMAX cinema. Next and Marks & Spencer are lined up as anchor tenants.Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s planning officers have recommended that the proposals get the thumbs up ahead of a committee meeting on 1 March 2017.The report said the development represents a “major investment in the city centre” which will create jobs and attract visitors.
