Step forward for major mixed-use plans

Plans to create a major mixed-use development on a global manufacturer’s former site in Stamford have taken a step forward.The old Cummins Generator Technologies site in Barnack Road was bought by South Kesteven District Council in 2018 for £7.5m and proposals have been drawn up to create 107,639 sq ft of office space, about 190 homes, a retirement village, foot store and café as well as public open space.Under the current plans, buildings will be knocked down to make way for the development which has been named St Martin’s Park.A formal application has not yet been submitted to the council’s planning department but officers have ruled that an environmental impact assessment is not required.This paves the way for a possible application to be submitted in the coming months.The EIA application submitted by Insight Town Planning on behalf of the 36-acre site’s owner.The vacant factory premises comprises a range of 20th century commercial buildings with a total of 305,000 sq ft of space.The council is working on the scheme alongside Burghley Land Ltd, the property arm of the historic Burghley House.Plans for Cummins to construct new buildings at its Ryhall Road site and cease production in Barnack Road were approved at the end of 2017.
