Student flats advance in Birmingham
An application proposing the creation of almost 70 units of student accommodation directly opposite the main gates of the University of Birmingham has moved forward.Madison Construction Ltd brought forward plans to redevelop land at Bournbrook Road. The site consists of five terraced houses.Permission was sought for the demolition of 2-4 Bournbrook Road and the transformation of 6-10, along with a new-build element of between three and four storeys,The development comprises 43 studios and 26 cluster rooms, with the ground floor incorporating a communal lounge.A report for the committee said: “I consider the development of this site for purpose-built student accommodation is acceptable in a highly sustainable location within easy walking distance of the University of Birmingham campus.”The proposal would support the function of the University of Birmingham as a key provider of employment, culture, and learning in the city.”Approval has been secured, subject to conditions.
