A former youth club and community and family centre in Wirral could be demolished to make way for a supermarket and residential development under newly-lodged plans.Applicant Hannah Walker has submitted an application to Wirral Council seeking a screening request in relation to the proposed demolition of Moreton Youth Club and Community Centre and the Moreton Family Centre. It would make way for the construction of a mixed-use development on land east of Pasture Road, Moreton. The detailed element of the application includes the bulldozing of the youth club and community centre. This along with the car park, internal access road and an area of self-seeded vegetation to the rear of the library is then proposed to be redeveloped as a Lidl food store. The supermarket will have a gross internal floorspace of 20,000 sq ft. Vehicular access to the store is proposed via a new junction from Pasture Road.A total of 123 car park and 12 cycle parking spaces will also be provided. The detailed element of the application also includes enhancements to Moreton Library. The outline part of the plans is proposed to include three development plots – housing, extra care apartments and community garden/orchard. A total of 45 homes would be built while the outline element also includes the demolition of the former Moreton Family Centre. This along with the open space and the multi-use games area will be redeveloped as a care/extra care apartment development with up to 80 beds.Should planning permission be granted for the proposed development by the end of 2022, Plots A and B are expected to be complete by mid 2024 and Plots C, D and E by mid 2026.The application concluded that the proposals are not likely to give rise to significant environmental issues and would not comprise EIA development as defined by the regulations. It therefore requested that the council adopt a screening opinion to confirm that no environmental statement is required within the statutory period.
