Plans have been lodged for a large supermarket distribution warehouse in Leeds with the potential to create about 400 jobs.Lidl GB has submitted a reserved matters application to Leeds City Council for the construction of a regional distribution centre (RDC) on Plot E at 62 Leeds.Planning permission is sought for the construction of a facility measuring about 580,000 sq ft. The ground floor would comprise a large warehouse area, with an ancillary offices and plant room on the first floor.A number of associated buildings and structures – collectively measuring about 16,000 sq ft – would be built, including a pallet store, drivers lounge and generator.A 275-space car park for staff and visitors would be created, together with a 25-space HGV parking area. Landscaping works are also proposed.The RDC will store and distribute fresh produce and non-food goods to supermarkets across Yorkshire, and has been proposed by Lidl following a review of its distribution network.A planning statement accompanying the application highlighted the “positive economic benefit as a result of the development”, including the creation of about 400 jobs.Outline planning permission was granted in April 2015 for up to one million sq ft of development on land between Gelderd Road, Asquith Avenue and Nepshaw Lane North.Following this, detailed application for infrastructure works and development plots across 62 Leeds have been determined.
