Swansea park and ride site to be expanded

Swansea’s Fabian Way park and ride site is set to be expanded with an extra 280 parking spaces after securing Welsh Government funding.The city’s council has received nearly £2m of funding to assist in the development and improvement of a series of transport services.Two different grants have been secured – Local Transport Fund (LTF) and Local Transport Network Fund (LTNF).Both will help in the ongoing improvements linked to transport routes in the city and also will help fund the further development of transport links, improving traffic flows.About £70,000 is being used to expand the existing Fabian Way Park & Ride site, adding a further 280 spaces, helping to accommodate students and the nearby university campuses and also assist with future special events taking place in Swansea.A further £700,000 is also being used to improve strategic bus corridors and help improve public transport services – mainly along Gower Road and Llangyfelach Road, while the same amount has been allocated to the South West Wales Metro project.Improvements are set to be made for people walking and cycling with £365,000 awarded for active travel schemes. Cycle and walking routes will include Clyne Common, Kingsbridge, Pontarddulais and Swansea Vale.
