The final residential phase of a development of almost 300 homes at a former quarry site in Swansea has been backed.Swansea Council’s planning committee approved plans for the development of the old Cwmrhydyceirw quarry for housing, in line with a recommendation in a report.Outline planning permission was granted on appeal by the Welsh Ministers in January 2018 for a development of around 300 properties.Katie Peters of Edenstone Group, has submitted a reserved matters application for the development of phase five for 19 residential units together with associated open space and ancillary infrastructure. Details of appearance, landscaping, layout and scale are also sought.To date, reserved matters applications have been approved for 259 properties on the site.With approval, the latest application would take the total number of approved residential units on the site up to 278.Of the 19 properties proposed there would be four, three-bed houses, five two-bedded homes, six two-bedroom flats and four one-bed flats.The applicant has indicated that this phase would be 100 per cent affordable with Coastal Housing Group.A report for the committee said: “The proposal has been considered in light of the principles established for the development at the outline planning stage, having regard to the Environmental Statement submitted, and is considered to be acceptable in accordance with LDP Policies relating to matters regarding: design/layout; residential amenity; highway safety; drainage; land contamination; and ecology.”
