Tata Steel submits plans for 280 Llanelli homes
Tata Steel UK has lodged plans to build 280 homes on a site in Llanelli close to its Trostre steelworks and the Parc y Scarlets rugby stadium.The company, via agent Turley, has submitted an outline application to Carmarthenshire County Council for a 24-acre site at Cefncaeau, Llanelli, located to the east of Parc Pemberton Retail Park and Parc y Scarlets. Tata’s Trostre steelworks is located to the south, beyond the A484.Up to 280 homes are proposed, together with open space, landscaping and other associated infrastructure.An element of affordable housing would be included with the exact provision to be decided at the reserved matters stage, together with housing sizes and types.The site is allocated for housing in the council’s adopted local development plan.Plans for residential development on the site were previously approved in January 2008. A number of issues subsequently arose, leading to head of the planning division of the Welsh Assembly Government identifying the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
