Tennis complex at Meadow Lane stadium to be served up as plans passed
Plans to build a padel tennis centre next to Notts County’s Meadow Lane Ground have been given the green light by city planning bosses. The decision means that four padel tennis courts will be built on unused land off Cattle Market Road and Iremonger Road to the north-west of the stadium.Padel is a form of tennis that played mainly in a doubles format on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court and can be played in groups of mixed ages and abilities, as it is not power dominant. The rules are broadly the same as tennis, although you serve underhand and the walls are used as part of the game with the ball allowed to bounce off them. One of the fastest growing sports across continental Europe, padel has gained increasing popularity over recent years, with over six million people currently playing in Spain.Notts County Football Club will create a suite of four, covered, padel tennis courts with associated facilities on the land to the rear of the Kop stand.Space for 56 car parking spaces in included in the scheme. The scheme is being designed by CPMG Architects, with Grace Machin as planning consultant, Influence at landscape architect, CPW as mechanical engineer and BSP Consulting as highways engineer.
