TfL, Notting Hill Genesis to build 619 homes in Kidbrooke, London

Transport for London (TfL) and Notting Hill Genesis have secured approval for the construction of 619 homes in Kidbrooke, London.Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, the housing project will be built on a vacant four-acre site in Royal Borough of Greenwich and will deliver 619 new homes across eight buildings. Out of the total homes, 50% of them will affordable housing units.The new homes will be available in one-, two- and three-bedroom options. The affordable homes will be delivered as part of the plans and will be a mix of shared ownership and London Affordable Rent. Construction on the site is expected to begin next year.In addition to providing new homes, the proposals for the site also include improving and providing new amenities for the community including improved transport hub and a new village square.The village square is expected to offer fresh spaces for the community to shop, eat and relax with a new café and convenience store.The joint venture also claims that in the plans for Kidbrooke also aim to sustainably regenerate an underutilised brownfield site and will also incorporate nature as part of the design with new green walkways and parts of the existing woodland will be retained.Plans for the new homes will support the local economy by offering 2,200m² of non-residential space, which will be a mixture of new nursery, retail and commercial space. It will include eight new business units, which will be ideal for a wide range of companies such as small start-ups and those in the creative industry.The site could boost employment by creating hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and more than 120 permanent jobs on site once the work has been completed.The site will be located in close proximity to the Zone 3 Kidbrooke national rail station and the bus stops on Kidbrooke Park Road.The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has provided additional funding from London’s business rates to allow TfL to bring forward plans for a new bus route in Kidbrooke near the site. Running between Kidbrooke Village and North Greenwich via Blackheath Royal Standard, the 335 bus route will connect new homes in the area to the key transport hub at North Greenwich.
