The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation assessed the prospects of the Northern Sea Route against the background of the blocking of the Suez Canal
Moscow. The Northern Sea Route (NSR) has a high potential for expanding the volume of cargo transportation. This was reported in the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, commenting on the situation against the background of blocking the movement of goods in the Suez Canal.Even in spite of the not very favorable situation, in 2020 the cargo traffic along the NSR exceeded the planned values ??and amounted to almost 33 million tons of cargo, including over 18 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation expects further growth in supplies and execution of the delivered by the President of Russia tasks to increase freight traffic by 2024 to 80 million tons per year.
