Thumbs up for Manydown scheme

The go-ahead has been secured for the development of thousands of new homes and a country park on the Manydown site in Basingstoke.The significant Manydown development could transform land off Roman Road and Worting Road. As well as thousands of new homes – with a maximum of 3,520 – the project will comprise two new primary schools and land for a new secondary schools.The plans feature a central street through the site and space for non-residential use such as shops and community facilities.The country park is expected to span almost 250 acres and the scheme also includes neighbourhood parks, allotments and outdoor sports facilities.Insider reported last week that the plans were set to go before Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s planning committee on 8 July 2020 with a recommendation for approval.Joint venture arrangements between Hampshire County Council, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Urban&Civic and The Wellcome Trust will be completed shortly.
