Timber business lodges plans for commercial building
A Cheshire-based timber business has lodged plans for a new commercial building which would enable the company to grow, and facilitate in-person meetings. The owners of The Reclaimed Timber Business want to demolish the existing building at Hill View Forge in Tattenhall Lane to make way for a replacement unit which would include a workshop, design studio, storage and ancillary space with a showroom and staff welfare facilities.Established in 2017, the company provides reclaimed timber products to trade and retail customers throughout the UK.Timber is sourced from the UK and Europe, made presentable, and reformed before being sold to customers.Currently, the business operates from a rented site in Clotton, where its wood products are processed for sale.A Planning Statement submitted with the application noted that, while producing products of sales to the public, “they often want to see the wood before they commission a project or purchase products already made”.It added: “The existing site does not have a showroom, and is not suitable for customer visits due to the general environment being unwelcoming, together with health and safety considerations.”Therefore having control of the site gives the company certainty to invest in new facilities to provide a workshop and showroom capable of fulfilling bespoke furniture and direct-to-public sales that require an in-person visit before commissioning or making a purchase.”Wattle + Daub Architects has designed the building, which the statement said will provide a “key contribution to the local economic prosperity and a broader contribution to the design and character of the area”.Cheshire West and Chester Council will review the application in due course.
