Town hall transformation approved
Plans to transform the former town hall at Ashton-in-Makerfield into an NHS community health centre have been approved. The Ashton Town Hall development on Bryn Street by Eric Wright Health & Care, in partnership with Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group, was brought forward following a deal to purchase the 10,764 sq ft vacant municipal building. The proposed new health facility would house the community services and GP practice currently located within Ashton Clinic and the Medicentre GP practice within a single location. It would support more than 10,000 patients in total and include space for a pharmacy.Improved pedestrian access for patients also forms a key part of the plans, with a new zebra crossing on Bryn Street and alleygates to be introduced. The centre would use existing town centre car parks to provide adequate provision for staff and patients.
