U+I reveals plans for 1,500-home Greenwich Peninsula scheme

Property developer U+I has announced plans to build 1,500 new homes in a 260,000 sq ft mixed-use project on Greenwich Peninsula.The group is currently consulting with local stakeholders on the Modern Wharf plans, which include 11 residential buildings ranging from six to 37 storeys, a new 174,000 sq ft riverfront park known as Modern Park and the refurbishment of an old jetty.Plans also involve a public square for markets and an underground carpark, as well as retail and commercial space.The developer is working with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) to deliver the plans.Modern Wharf is intended to include heat pumps and solar energy to cut carbon emissions.OMA partner Reinier de Graaf said that the designs were influenced by the industrial heritage of Greenwich Peninsula.The developer is also holding discussions about bringing the Thames Clipper river bus to the area and said it would be making financial contributions to transport improvements in the area.U+I is set to submit a planning application imminently, after receiving public feedback on the proposals.
