Despite several setbacks, Birmingham’s planning committee has given the green light to the Clyde Street development in Digbeth, which will feature 481 apartments. The development from the UK’s largest affordable housing provider Clarion was tipped for approval by planning officers, but the decision was postponed due to concerns over affordable housing and aviation safety.481 apartments will be built across two interlinked buildings of 10 and 38 storeys, on the former Safestore industrial land.Spearheaded by Latimer, a subsidiary of Clarion Housing Group, the plans allocate 55% of the residences as affordable housing.Through funding from Homes England, Latimer has committed to providing 141 apartments for social rent and 127 for shared ownership.
