The current contract for Sewage, refuse, cleaning and environmental services – Framework Lead is projected to end on 07-APR-20 and may be available for retender. Closed Landfill Monitoring and Maintenance Contract.

Cumbria County Council is responsible for routine gas, leach-ate, surface water and groundwater monitoring and routine maintenance of a network of closed landfill sites across Cumbria to ensure they are managed and maintained in accordance with legislation.
26 of those landfills are classified as non-permitted with the remaining 8 classified as permitted landfills spread across the County. Not all these sites are owned by the Council, although it remains the duty of the Council under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part 2 and Contaminated Land Regulations, to ensure there are no adverse impacts on the environment from any of the sites.
The Council wishes to appoint a contractor to manage and monitor these sites to ensure no adverse effect on human health and the environment.
